How does skin cancer develop?

When skin cells change and multiply abnormally, uncontrolled growth leads to the development of masses known as tumors. These tumors that occur in the skin are also known as lesions, and these cancers are malignant and cause the destruction of nearby cells, resulting in random growth.

These tumors pass through the bloodstream and, even in advanced stages of skin cancer, invade other distant organs.

Types of skin cancer

Skin cancer is classified into two types based on how easily it spreads. The two types of skin cancer are non-melanoma and melanoma. Non-melanoma includes the types of basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.

1. Melanoma – Cancer that attacks melanocytes or skin cells that make pigment.

2. Basal cell carcinoma – cancer that attacks the lower part of the epidermis or the outer layer of the skin.

3. Squamous Cell Carcinoma – Cancer that attacks the squamous cells or squamous cells that make up the surface of the skin.

Skin cancer treatment

Surgery is an effective method of treating non-melanoma cancer. All surgical interventions begin with surgery and include subsequent methods of radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
